Comment by Paul McCarty on August 19, 2012 at 11:28am Oh! Oh! What breed are they? I want a cell!
I have a lot of drone production right now. One of my hives that swarmed earlier in the year has a laying queen and is producing about 7 swarm cells right now. I pulled a nuc from it last week hoping to stem the tide. They have LOTS of room and that has not stopped them. I just now went and pulled another nuc from it as they are still at it! The rain is a bit late up here and they are on a good flow and the swarm instinct is kicking in. Watch out for swarming!
Comment by Paul McCarty on August 18, 2012 at 8:18pm Not too unusual - bees that have built up full tilt should be outgrowing their homes around now.
Comment by James H DAWDY on August 18, 2012 at 7:59pm I've gotten 3 swarm calls in the last couple of days. Anyone else getting them? Seems a bit late in the year. I'm wondering if it's due to a combination of drought delaying the buildup of hives to the point they are ready to swarm, and Africanized bee genetics.
